Dársenas Square

The Casita Information Center was constructed during World War II. This served as a bar for the soldiers who disembark by that area. One says that one of the soldiers fell in love with the disable woman, who took care of the bar (waiter), and thereafter became married. Soon she died and he built a monument to her. This monument is a fountain localized next to “La Casita” and says “Chavín Memorial”. “La Casita” was used as a telegraph office in the 60’s. Eventually it was recognized as “La Casita Information Center”.

In the Botanical Garden within the Stroll, are located the several sculptures called Our Heritage (“Nuestra Herencia”): the woman represents the arts, the bishop represents the inheritance of the faith, the men and the woman, the freedom, the Spanish, African and Taíno, represent the social heritance. In this area, also exists a Morisca fountain and a monument of Mrs. Felisa Rincón de Gautier.

The Princess Jail had been constructed in order to turn it into a military shool, soon turn to be the jail. Pedro Albizu Campos was in favor, imprisioned for several years in that jail. Nowadays, this building is the headquarter of the Tourism Company offices of Puerto Rico.
